- Wednesday in the month of June was considered a lucky day for marriage while Shrore Tuesday was a lucky day for match making. The weddings of old were much greater than they are now. The dowry consisted of stock or money. The people attending the wedding rode home on horse back, the bride riding behind the groom on a pillion attached to the saddle.
The bride wore a dress cap or a bonnet a blue cloth cloak which extended to the ankles. The bridegroom wore a tall hat a skirt coat, and lenec breeches, buckled shoes and long stockings. Strawboys came to the house the night of the wedding. They gave a great display in singing and dancing. They were led in by the captain who took charge of them for the night, and delivered an address wishing the Bride and Bridegroom success, health, and happiness in their future life.- Bailitheoir
